Founded in 1977 in Brazil, Menendez Amerino was born surrounded by history, traditions, and references. It all started in the 1930s, when Alonso Menendez and José Manuel Garcia Gonzalez founded Menendez Garcia Sociedade Ltda, in Cuba. A successful trajectory in the manufacture of cigars began with the launch of the Montecristo brand, which is still one of the best-known “Premium” cigar brands in the world. Years later, they acquired the H. Upmann brand, making them the largest cigar producers and exporters in Cuba. The partnership between the Menendez Family and Bahia Tobacco culminated in an invitation from Mário Amerino Portugal to form a society. In 1977, Benjamin Menendez and Mário Amerino Portugal founded Menendez Amerino e Cia Ltda, located in São Gonçalo dos Campos, Bahia.
